It seems like people experience more disappointment today than in any other time in history. It’s a bad feeling, right?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
‘Disappoint’ comes from ‘dis’ (to reverse or undo) and ‘appoint’ (to agree upon something). Thus, it is the undoing or absence of a perceived expectation. Our experience with disappointment is interesting. If you really look at it, it's as simple as this: I want x. I should have x. I need x. I deserve x. I didn’t get x. I’m disappointed. There are definitely certain things in life that we need to survive. Food, shelter, community, etc. But, I’m willing to bet most of the things we are disappointed by in life aren’t things we actually need, and sometimes we probably shouldn’t have them. That is where we run into problems. We have a sense of entitlement. When we feel like we deserve something that we aren’t entitled to, we set ourselves up for disappointment.

We must realize that we are entitled to nothing, yet the Lord provides us with everything we need. When we realize this and live it out, we will be free to live a life of joy, satisfaction, and freedom. God knows what you need. Allow Him to give it to you.

“Come Holy Spirit, help us grow in humility, so as to rely on God alone, who knows what we truly need. Amen.”
