It’s been a long and, at times, dark year. There have been many challenges, losses, stress, sadness, complications, etc. All of those things are very hard and very real. Yet we mustn’t lose sight of what can come from them. In the first chapter of John’s Gospel, we read, “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5). While there has been a lot of darkness, we can’t forget that Jesus shines through it and that the darkness can NEVER, NEVER overcome the light of Jesus Christ. In that same chapter it is proclaimed, “And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us,” (John 1:14).

Jesus Christ, the living God incarnate, came down to dwell among us and does this each and every day. At every mass, we get to take part in this wonderful miracle. Jesus is the light and He tells us, “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) Jesus desires to come into your life in a new way this year, to dwell in your heart, to come into the darkness you experience, and be the light which can not be overcome. He has already come at Christmas and he desires to enter into this New Year with you in a new way. Invite Jesus into your heart and allow this to be a year of growth with the Lord. Happy New Year!
