Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Trust. What is trust? One definition might be the confidence or belief in something or someone. Take a minute to think of some of the people in your life that you trust. Grandparents, parents, siblings, teachers, friends, other relatives, etc. Did the Lord come to mind? Think about why He did or didn’t come to mind. If He didn’t, is it because you don’t physically see Him like you do your friends? Is it because you don’t know Him? Is it because you feel as if He isn’t real or has failed you? Whatever it may be, keep that in mind while you read. Also, keep in mind the image of God the Father reaching out to hold your hand.
One of the things I really focus on each day is reading one chapter of the Sacred Scriptures. Over the past week, I read through the First and Second Letters of St. Paul to the Thessalonians. The Lord gave me a very clear overarching message. Trust and persevere. You see, over the past few weeks I have had to really surrender my will to the Lord and trust that He will stay true to His word and provide for me. He promises each one of us that He will be faithful, and He will never lead us to a place in life that won't ultimately lead to our full satisfaction when we walk with Him.
Here are a few of the verses that really stuck out to me:
1. “But as we were judged worthy by God to be entrusted with the gospel, that is how we speak, not as trying to please human beings, but rather God, who judges our hearts.” 1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NABRE)
2. “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NABRE)
3. “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NABRE)
4. “But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NABRE)
Each one of these speaks to the truth that the Lord has not only called each one of us by name, but to the fact that He will remain faithful to us. The third and fourth verses I have listed start off with the declaration of God’s faithfulness! Take another look at the second verse. The third sentence talks about accepting every situation with thankfulness, because it is the will of the Lord that you are there at that moment. Man, is that hard or what? But, I assure you that it is worth it! Something that I have found to be very helpful is the following saying, “Jesus is suffering with you.” Anything you face, He faces it with you. Trust in Him! Entrust all things to Him, and He will make something truly beautiful out of that ‘Yes’! I encourage you to spend some time in prayer with each of those verses, or even better, read those Epistles yourself! Reflect on what the Lord might be trying to say to you in those words. With trust, allow the Father to take your hand and walk with you! If you are struggling with trusting Him, I have added the links to some great prayers at the end of the article.
With Love, your brother in Christ,
Jesse Iamarino
